We are proud to announce our recent partnership with Search and Rescue Dog Australia (SARDA), a dedicated volunteer-run organisation providing highly trained canine teams to support emergency services during search, detection, and recovery operations.
As part of this partnership, Value Plus has donated specialised First Aid Kits to all 12 active SARDA handlers, equipping them with vital tools to care for their canine teammates in the field.
Why SARDA Matters
SARDA is a not-for-profit organisation operating 24/7, assisting emergency services. Their K9 units are a critical resource during time-sensitive operations—from locating missing persons in remote bushland to supporting disaster response efforts in urban environments.
What sets SARDA apart is the exceptional level of training and commitment behind every team. Each handler spends 1–2 years and over 1,200 hours training a detection dog.
SARDA-accredited dog teams are assessed by internationally qualified external assessors against International and Australian standards:
- INSARAG (International Search and Rescue Advisory Group)
- FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency, USA)
- NSARDA UK Lowland Area Search Standards
In addition, SARDA also operates accredited Human Remains Detection (HRD) teams – Cadaver Canines, meeting APWDA standards assessed here in Australia. Two teams have the above qualifications and are available 24/7 to assist Victoria Police and other government agencies.
According to global data, a single qualified K9-handler team can cover the same ground as 30 human searchers under optimal conditions—making them an irreplaceable asset in emergency response.
First Aid Where It’s Needed Most
Field operations can be tough on both handlers and dogs. Injuries, heat stress, fatigue, and environmental hazards are real risks when teams are deployed to search in challenging terrain.
That’s why we’re proud to provide each SARDA handler with a Value Plus First Aid Kit, packed with essential items to treat minor injuries, stabilise more serious issues until help arrives, and keep these incredible dogs performing at their best.
